I come from a family of artists going back several generations. The most well-known of my ancestors is probably my grandfather, the painter Nils Dardel. As a child, I would often paint and draw together with my mother (also an artist) and my siblings, so my choice of profession was natural.
I was born in Stockholm in 1954, but moved down to Skåne in southern Sweden at an early age. In 1975 I started studying art at Forum Art Academy (now known as the Malmö Art Academy). For three years, I studied there under Gerhard Nordström och Staffan Nihlén. After art school, I studied at the Forum School of Graphic Arts for a year, under Bertil Lundberg. I now live and work on Ekerö, outside Stockholm.
As a Child, I was deeply fascinated by surrealist art, and as an adult I have been inspired by artists such as Bosch, Bacon, and Max Ernst, but also by Caravaggio, Michelango and Rembrandt.
Much of what I paint and draw can be seen as fantasy, or perhaps magical realism. Additionally, I paint landscapes, and portraits on commision. Portraits can be painted either "live", with the subject in the room, or from a photo. I work both with pencil drawing, watercolour, gouache and oil. Since many years, I have been teaching drawing and painting.
My art has been exhibited in art galleries around Sweden, and since 1977 I am represented at Malmö Museum, as well as in various cities and regions around Sweden. In 2009, I was awarded the Ekerö Municipality Prize for Culture.
